The Municipality of Medea

Medea is a village on the right side of the Isonzo river, in the province of Gorizia, near a hill of calcareous origin that surprisingly rises on the alluvial plain. Medea is a small village where the main productive activities are connected mainly to agriculture in the wine sector and in the cultivation of corn. The highest population density is found in the centre of the village. Over the years it has been developing towards the settlement of Borgnano and the territory of Cormons.
From the cultural point of view, the most important event organized in Medea is the “Concert for world peace” proposed in the area of ​​the Ara Pacis, a monument dedicated to the victims of all wars and especially of the Second World War. “In a place that is a symbol of peace and union among peoples, so dense with metaphysical suggestions such as the Ara Pacis of Medea, a true temple of reflection on brotherhood, music finds a privileged dimension, a broader and deeper meaning of artistic expression.” The initiative is promoted by the Municipal Administration along with many organisations and musical associations of the region. Moreover, orchestras of national importance participate in the concert.
Another original initiative that takes place in Medea is also the “scarecrow festival” characterized by the fact that each family builds its scarecrow and places it in front of the door of the house or in the garden. The passers-by see the “artefact” which usually resembles the person who made it as if it were a sort of alter ego. Obviously, the festival becomes an occasion for food and wine events. The Municipal Tourist Board plays a very important role in organising and managing the event.
Even in a small village like Medea some accommodation facilities cannot be missed. A niche tourism, passionate about food and wine, culture and natural life, finds in Medea high quality, tranquillity and proximity to the heart of the Collio.

The municipality of Medea has no experience of participation in the context of European programmes and cross-border collaboration. With the Lighting Solutions project, the municipality was included in a partnership that will allow it to acquire skills and knowledge in the field of energy saving and renewable energy. In collaboration with schools, it will carry out various educational and informational activities. It also intends to proceed with the signing of the Covenant of Mayors and the approval of an Action Plan for sustainable energy consumption. Engaging in the project signifies the acquisition of a technical basis and competences for further implementation of energy efficiency measures, as well as it contributes to the dissemination of knowledge and experience in the field of energy efficiency measures in the cross-border area of ​​the programme.
